USA – After a multi-year hiatus focused on structural redevelopment, the X League is officially set to return to the gridiron on April 4, 2026. Spearheaded by NFL legend Mike Ditka and co-owner Samantha Gordon, the league is rebranding itself as a premier destination for women’s tackle and flag football, operating under the mission of "Empowerment through Sport."
The 2026 season will feature eight powerhouse franchises competing in a 16-week regular season. The Western Conference includes the defending champion Chicago Blitz, alongside the Denver Rush, Los Angeles Black Storm, and Seattle Thunder. The Eastern Conference features the 2022 runners-up Atlanta Empire, the Dallas Sound, and two new expansion teams: the Miami Tequestas and the New England Defenders.
Technological innovation is at the heart of the relaunch. The league has introduced high-performance athletic uniforms equipped with biometric sensors and integrated microphones, allowing fans to track player heart rates and field audio in real-time. This move coincides with a new hybrid 7-on-7 format played on a 70-yard field, designed to maximize speed and excitement.
The road to the X Cup begins with the season opener between the Denver Rush and Los Angeles Black Storm. With a roster featuring returning stars like MVP quarterback Stephanie Raymond and elite flag football athletes, the 2026 season promises to be the most competitive and technologically advanced era of women’s football yet.
